Finding
Two Gurney lot-holders at post-1667 Mendon: the son and the widow
The post-1667 Mendon proprietors' records preserve two separate Gurney lot-holders of the same generation: John Gurny, matching the resident son John Jr., whose twenty-acre lot passed out of the family by sale in 1692; and Grisel Gurny, John Sr.'s widow, holding her own twenty-acre lot in her own right and willing it to her son by an earlier marriage, Joseph Juell. The two records track the family's already-established son-who-settled-there and widow-who-remarried-elsewhere lines, not a single household.
Date: both lots trace to the town's post-15 May 1667 incorporation; John's is sold out of the family by 1692
