South Erpingham parish, 11 miles north of Norwich. A 1578 church monument to William Gurney, gent. (d. 10 Mar. 1578) and Anne his wife bears West Barsham-arms differenced with a crescent, identifying him as an armigerous cadet of the West Barsham line. A separate copyhold Gurney family appears in the Cawston manorial courts, 1640s-1750s; the descent link between the two is unresolved.
