Modern Bosc-Hyons (INSEE 76124, postal 76220), the medieval Boshyon / Boscus Hugonis — 'Hugues's wood,' almost certainly named for Hugh I de Gournay. A small commune in the canton of Gournay, south-south-west of Gournay-en-Bray. Decorde 1861 catalogues medieval spellings Boshyon, Boschyon, Bos-Huon, Bos-Hyon, Bos-Hyvon and the recommended modern French rendering Bois-Hugues or Bosc-Hugon. The medieval parish was the revenue base for at least three Gournay-area endowments — the 1082 Jumièges 190-arpent charter by Hugh III and Basilie, *apud villam quæ vocatur Hugonis silva*; the 1164 grain endowment by Hugues IV and Mélisende for the church of Gaillefontaine (three boisseaux of wheat, five of oats, *apud Boscum Hugonis*), ratified by Archbishop Rotrou of Rouen; and the 1195 Manassès de Bully one-*muid*-of-oats endowment from the Boshyon mill for a perpetual altar lamp before St Hildevert's relic at the Gournay collegiate church. The parish church of Saint-Michel was given to the Gournay chapter by a sire de Gournay in the twelfth century; the chapter held the patronage until 1623.
