No indexed English parish-register cluster matches the colonial John's full family signature — a John Gurney with a wife Mary and children Sarah, Mary, Richard, John Jr., and Peter — in the target window of roughly 1620–1640, across more than twenty Gurney-surname baptisms reviewed in the FamilySearch, Findmypast, and Ancestry indexed collections. The closest clusters are the candidate parishes already weighed (Berkhamsted, Aylesbury, Hitcham, Eythorne, Toddington, Ackworth), each weak on the children's dates, the mother's name, or both. The absence is best read as a coverage gap in the surviving and indexed registers — the first three children most plausibly lie in an unindexed eastern-England set — not as evidence that the children were born outside England, and least of all in Massachusetts. It is the baptism-register counterpart of the unrecovered English marriage, and it is the thin paper trail Candidate B predicts for a family raised outside the recording parishes.
