John named no child Francis — the strongest naming-pattern argument against Candidate B
John Gurney named no child Francis. In a period when a first or early son was routinely named for the father, that absence is the single strongest naming-pattern argument against the Candidate B parentage, and it stands as written: John's roster is Sarah, Mary, Richard, John Jr., and Peter, with no Francis among them. Four explanations have been offered — estrangement from a father who had lost everything, avoidance of a name attached to that ruin, maternal naming priority (Richard may honour Mary's kinsman Richard Ryvett of Gressenhall), or an earlier Francis who died young and left no record — but each is an undocumented hypothesis, not evidence.
