Finding

The senior West Barsham branch in the East Dereham orbit, 1636–1641

The senior West Barsham branch — under Candidate B, John's uncle's and cousins' household — was present in the East Dereham neighbourhood across exactly the years in question. Edward Gournay's sister Elizabeth kept house at East Bilney, five miles from East Dereham, from before December 1636; and when Edward died on 6 August 1641 his inquisition post mortem was taken at East Dereham on 13 October 1641. This does not name John or connect him to the branch. What it removes is the objection that a Gurney child baptised at East Dereham in 1609/10 would be a stranger to the parish.
