Finding
A first marriage unknown to the compilers, opening a family of the emigrant's generation
Francis Gurney had a first wife before Anne Browning, and therefore a first family whose children fall about 1609–1617 — the generation the Massachusetts emigrant belongs to. The 1611 marriage also fills the otherwise unexplained thirteen-year gap between Francis's 1606 freedom and his first recorded child at St Benet Fink in 1619, and it confirms as fact the Pease genealogy's transmitted family tradition of a "Margaret Ryvett" first marriage. Neither Daniel Gurney nor Bernau ever found the record, so no child of that marriage could appear in their accounts.
