1627 Gurdon–Winthrop letter: 'mrs. Gurny' presents through the Court of Wards
Brampton Gurdon of Assington's letter to John Winthrop, 20 October 1627, asks Winthrop — then an attorney at the Court of Wards and Liveries — to further a clergyman's suit to the Master of the Wards over a church presentation held by 'mrs. Gurny who is gardyon to her sonn who wantethe a few monthes of being of ful age,' whom 'yong mr. gurney' attends, with commendations to Emmanuel Downing. It is the only Gurney-variant document in the whole Winthrop Family Papers.
