Pope 1900: printed Braintree 'John Cheny' a typographical error for John Gurney
Charles Henry Pope, The Pioneers of Massachusetts (1900), entering John Gurney of Braintree under the head-form 'GURNET, GORNET,' states that 'he is called John Cheny, Sen., in the printed records of Braintree, by a typographical error,' and reads both the 20 (7) 1661 wife-death line and the 12 (9) 1661 marriage to 'Grizzell, widow of Henry Kibbee' as the Gurney family — an independent, records-based 1900 ruling that the printed Cheny is an error for Gurney.
