The Braintree town-record manuscript, read at image level, shows the fair-copy marriages register (p. 174) ink main text as 'John Girny, Senior (and) Grizell ——X——, by Peter Brackett, 9mo 12, 1661' — the groom 'Girny,' an attested Gurney variant, carrying the copyist's uncertain-reading underline; the bride's surname left blank. 'Cheny / Kidbee' appears only in a later pencil hand in the left margin. The 17th-century original deaths page reads '[?]eny the wiffe of John [?]eny dyed the 7th month 20, 1661,' the initial letterform ambiguous between secretary-hand Ch and G.
