Finding

Finding: a sparse but sufficient household

John Gurney's household goods were modest and few — his own apparel, boots and hat (£4 5s) his single most valuable possession, plus bedding (£2 12s), a little pewter and brass (14s 6d), one cupboard (8s), a chair and frame goods, barrels and trays (16s 6d), and an ordinary household musket (12s), with no plate, glass, books, or surplus furniture — a working colonial home furnished to sufficiency and no further.

Confidence: Moderate-high
