Finding

Coverage: the online research-infrastructure beyond the core corpus adds no John Gurney record

Beyond the FamilySearch, Internet Archive, and Google corpus already worked, the specialist online research infrastructure returns no John Gurney and no Gurn-variant in the emigrant or early-settlement window: Coldham's three Ancestry emigrant compilations (Admiralty adventurers, bonded emigrants, Christ's Hospital apprentices), the Congregational Library's colonial-church index, and the Massachusetts Digital Commonwealth aggregator are each negative or out of window. This bounds the 'immigrant of unknown origin' state to the present reach of the online infrastructure; the one compilation of its class not yet reached is Coldham's Complete Book of Emigrants, 1607-1660 (absent from Ancestry), which with TNA E 157/20 remains the outstanding emigrant-record residual (lead L-170).
